About Aeria Games
Founded in 2006, Aeria Games has grown into a global presence, publishing games for PCs, browsers, tablets, and smartphones in nine different languages across more than 30 countries. For years now, Aeria has been a leading destination for free-to-play online multiplayer games. Since July 2016 they have been a subsidiary of the Gamigo group.
By 2010, Aeria Games was the leading free-to-play MMORPG publisher and was beginning to explore mobile gaming. At that time, they were testing games with a combination of in-house testers and external outsourced testers.
They were unsatisfied with the quality of bugs found, bug reports, and communication from their external outsourced testers. Despite large resources being spent on tester training, they were unable to consistently ship games and updates without major defects.
How We Helped
Aeria Games was introduced to us through a prior working relationship. They agreed to run a 2-month trial with a dedicated team of 2 testers, manually testing their PC, mobile games and applications.
The trial was a clear success. Even before it ended quality improvements were evident, and soon all external testing was transferred to us. In particular, Aeria Games saw significant improvements in:
Ability to find new and impactful bugs.
Care and attention to detail with large amounts of regression testing.
Ability to write detailed and easy-to-understand bug reports. Producers at Aeria Games were able to send bug reports directly to their external developers.
Open and clear communication and ability to self-manage.
By handing over their game testing, Aeria's producers and managers were able to spend more time on new features, monetization, and community management.
From 2010 to today, we have been a stable, reliable, and self-managing partner for Aeria Games. Through multiple rounds of layoffs and acquisitions (ProSiebenSat.1 Media (2014) and Gamigo (2016)), they have never worried about their testing and QA.
We have scaled up and down with their needs, maintaining teams of anywhere from 4 to 20 testers. The team has provided help through difficult times by being flexible and consistent.
Daily reports were provided (through email and chat) and we often helped train new producers and team members at Aeria Games. Our testers have been commended several times for being reliable, detailed, easy to work with, and clear communicators.
Over the years, we have worked on more than 50 of their published PC games, mobile games, and applications. We also worked with over a dozen of their 3rd-party developers helping to provide consistently high-quality gaming experiences for their 70 million players.
